Scholarship

All PGY-1s are required to complete a case report write-up. The top three case reports are selected for presentation at the first Grand Rounds of the academic year. Poster presentations and publications are encouraged.

Residents also complete a scholarly project over the course of their three years of training. Most residents identify a project and begin their work during the second half of the PGY-1 year. Scholarly activities have historically included clinical, educational, quality improvement and patient safety, community, and advocacy projects, providing residents with a wide range of meaningful opportunities to explore their interests and strengthen their academic skills.

During PGY-3 year, all residents present their completed projects at the Annual Pediatric Resident Scholarly Day, an event attended by residents, faculty, and departmental leadership. Many residents also present their work at regional and national meetings hosted by professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Academic Societies, and the Pediatric Endocrine Society. Financial support is available for residents who are selected to present their work at a conference.
