Pathology Residency: Application Process

How to Apply

Applications are accepted only through the . All positions are filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

A complete ERAS application must include:
  • Personal Statement demonstrating your interest in pathology
  • Three Letters of Recommendation, preferably from faculty who have worked with you clinically (One or more from a pathologist is strongly recommended)
  • USMLE Scores: Step I, and Step II CK (preferably passed on the first attempt)
  • Official Medical School Transcript
  • Dean’s Letter/Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Official USMLE Score Report
  • Photograph

Additional Requirements for International Medical Graduates (IMGs):

  • Certification
  • ECFMG and USMLE/FLEX scores
  • Visa Sponsorship, we sponsor J-1 visas only (H-1B visas are not sponsored)
  • U.S. or Canadian Clinical Experience: At least 3 months of direct patient care externship within the last 4 years
  • Graduation Timeline: Preference given to applicants who graduated within the last 3 years
  • TOEFL Requirement: Applicants not in a U.S. or Canadian residency within 18 months of ECFMG certification must take the TOEFL and score at least 600; the Test of Spoken English (TSE) and Test of Written English (TWE) are also required
  • U.S. References: Strongly preferred

Licensure Requirement:

All accepted residents must obtain an Ohio State Medical Training Permit before beginning training.
