Area Health Education Centers (AHEC)

Metro AHEC Program

Development of the °µÍø½ûÇø Metro AHEC stems from the need for ever more diversified ambulatory education opportunities for the physicians of tomorrow. From the long-standing success of the rural, ambulatory AHEC program at °µÍø½ûÇø, this initiative provides students with the opportunity to learn population-centered approaches to health promotion and disease prevention in urban, inner city sites. Students are part of interdisciplinary teams of health care providers and are exposed to clinical care of under-represented populations, including the homeless.

The °µÍø½ûÇø Metro AHEC is available for clinical education for both medical students at The Zepf Center in Toledo, with additional sites anticipated in the future. The Metro AHEC is an alternative to the current rural program as a means to fulfill the AHEC graduation requirement.
